The Beauty of Fog

When I was staying on my friend's farm in Whroo, Victoria, AU, I was gifted a foggy morning.

I was initially apprehensive to go outside as it looked cold and ominous.

Although it was not blue skies with a sun that kissed my skin, it presented itself as beautiful in a very different way.

The fog engulfed me like a bubble. Protecting me, for a moment, from the clamour of life.

I was quick to realise how quiet my surroundings were.

It was no longer an ominous mist, but a wall that forced me to be incredibly present in my morning - it was also very fun to take photos in.

There was comfort in not being able to see what was in front of us. Conversation and laughter were plentiful, all without distraction.

The fog became my artistic accomplice, creating a perfect backdrop for reflections on the water.

I find that when life gets noisy, your susceptibility to falling victim to a strong whirlpool of further noise, distraction and demand increases. Escaping can be hard.

A self-constructed wall against the whirlpool is something I have been learning how to create and protect.

My foggy morning in Whroo allowed me to place another brick to my wall. A brick symbolising the excitement, escape, joy, stillness and composition I know I now find in foggy surrounds. Whether alone or with others, it is an environment I now know provides me an opportunity to connect. Connect with myself and my immediate environment.

On this day, I was reminded to never be closed to exploring something that may look less inviting or uncomfortable and to seek comfort in discomfort.

I am glad I was able to discover the beauty of fog.
